[illegible postmark] Address: - Miss Evyleen Stewart. Richmond Ont. Canada. “Via Ottawa” [Back of envelope] [Stamp] [illegible] 18 ONT [abbreviated: 1918 Ontario] [Page 1 of 3] France, Jan, 16th/1918 [January 16, 1918] Dear Evyleen:- Rec’d [abbreviated: Received] your letter of Dec. 5th. [abbreviated: December 5] a few days ago, being very glad to get such a long newsy letter, you said it was a long time since you had written well it really that way by the length of your letter, next time try + arrange the sheets in order, as it always looks better + much easier to read, suppose you won’t mind me criticising, guess I have quite a few mistakes but you are in a different position than me for writing. I also got a letter from Clystal + Agatha McCauley, this (2) mail seems to have been quite a time on the road. Well Evyleen you seem to be doing very well at school, hoping you keep it up, am sure both you + Merle have grown alot since I left, together with little Norma + Ivy, Norma writes a very nice letter too. The weather has taken a slight change in the last few days, has been raining on + off pretty regularly, suppose you are having frosty weather in Canada now, have you done much skating this year? Clystal told me of Willie having gone overseas, she will be pretty lonesome for awhile. [Page 3 of 3] This is some paper I got in a parcel from Mrs. J. Mills. Am acknowledging it today, also got one from Miss Coughlan Clissie’s friend, so I have been well supplied with Xmas [abbreviated: Christmas] parcels. They were more distributed this year than last. came all at once last year, of course we are getting this war done to a business haha! You might ask mother to send a outside shirt about every month, one that is fine hard + won’t catch the [illegible: dirt] or get lousy very quick. With Best Love, Your Brother Sefton.
