[Page 1 of 2] Carleton Place Aug 26th 1918 [abbreviated: August 26, 1918] My dear Mrs Stewart. Our deepest sympathy with you all in your sad bereavement. I so often thought of your dear boy and was speaking about him to Florence only in the afternoon before we got the Journal [Ottawa Journal newspaper] containing the sad news. Poor words of mine are but little consolation. Only the Lord can help you in this sad hour [Page 2 of 2] May he give you strength to bear this great trial. I realize what you are passing through as no one else can who has not lost a dear son. Give my love to Jim and Eva and all the children. With much love and sympathy from George and Florence. Lovingly. L. [Lavina] Sumner
