Description

This object is a mortgage agreement between Hiram Switzer and Samuel A. (F. or T.) It is dated to January 7, 1897. It concerns a parcel of land designated F1/2 E1/2 Lot 6 Concession 8. The support is a rectangular piece of cream colored paper. The medium is a black printed ink. A red ink has been used for administrative and decorative purposes. The fields have been filled in with a handwritten black ink rendered in cursive. All the text on the proper right half of the front is perpendicular to the primary body of text. The title page appears on the front proper top right quadrant, perpendicular to the primary text, as this object was intended to be folded into a brochure form for transport and storage. There is a blue rubber stamp imprint, rendered in blue ink, located at the proper top right corner of the front; this consists of seven lines of script and the fields have been filled in by hand with a black handwritten ink. The words "This Indenture" appear at the top of the proper left side of the front in a large decorative font. On the front proper left half there are three vertical lines which are comprised of thin parallel red lines; these extend the length of the page. The proper right most vertical red line, near the center of the page, is comprised of four smaller lines, the middle vertical line is comprised of three smaller lines, and the line located at the proper leftmost is comprised of three smaller red lines. There are also two horizontal red lines which are made of smaller red lines that run the length of the proper left half of the front. The topmost line is comprised of four smaller lines and located at the top, the lower horizontal line at the bottom is comprised of three horizontal lines. There are two circular red seals on the proper bottom right of the back. They resemble cogs with pointed teeth and are arranged in a vertical alignment.. On the back there are six vertical lines and two horizontal lines. The horizontal lines extend across both halves of the page. The vertical lines are comprised of, from proper left to right: four lines, three lines, three lines, four lines, three lines, three lines. The top horizontal line is comprised of four lines, the bottom is comprised of three.

Context

This object provides information about an individual and land linked to a historical family from the Goulbourn area. It is associated with the Switzer family who were some of the original settlers in the Goulbourn area through John Charles Schweitzel, an immigrant from Spain (the family was renamed Switzer at an unknown date).
