This object is an indenture for a chattel mortgage; a mortgage for moveable property. In this instance, the agreement concerns three horses "one bay mare with white face and three white legs with foal -5 years old" and "One black mare with white face 4 years old". The object is dated May 3, 1905. The support is a cream colored piece of paper. The medium is a printed black ink. Red ink has been used to create borders. A rubber stamp imprint has been rendered in purple ink. Black and brown/gold handwritten ink have been used to fill in the fields, rendered in cursive. An additional inscription appears rendered in pencil.
The title page on the proper right half of the front appears perpendicular to the primary text as this object was intended to be folded into a brochure form for transport and storage. There is a block of text on the proper bottom right quadrant of the front which is upside-down in relation to the primary body of text. There is a purple rubber stump on the title page which consists of six lines of text; the fields of the stamp have been filled in with a black handwritten ink. There is an inscription in pencil to the proper right of the purple rubber stamp impression. The words "This Indenture" appear at the top of the proper left half of the front; these are rendered in a large decorative script in printed black ink. The words "This indenture" feature a white to black gradient using the negative space of the page; the color transitions from white to solid black from bottom to top. There are two horizontal red lines which span the entire width of the front at the top and bottom; the top horizontal red line is comprised of three parallel red lines, the bottom horizontal red line is comprised of two parallel red lines. There are three vertical red lines which run the length of the proper left front half. The proper rightmost vertical line is comprised of three parallel lines; the other two vertical lines are comprised of two parallel red lines.
There is a single red/brown seal on the proper left half of the back, located near the vertical center line near the bottom. It presents as a cog with pointed teeth. There are two horizontal red lines which span the entire width of the back at the top and bottom. The top horizontal red line is comprised of three parallel red lines. The bottom horizontal red line is comprised of two parallel red lines. There are a total of six vertical lines which run the length of the page on the back, three on each half. The leftmost vertical line on the proper left half is comprised of three parallel lines; the other two red vertical lines on the proper left half are comprised of two parallel lines. The leftmost line on the proper right half is comprised of three parallel lines; the other two red vertical lines on the proper right half are comprised of two parallel lines.Collection
