Description

This object is a cap with a frame, visor, and a peak. The frame is composed of black felt and has the text: STITTSVILLE O.Y.B.74 embroidered in yellow-gold thread. It also has one plain brass button on each side over the ear. The visor is glossy and has a light brown braided trim. The top is made of paneled off-white cloth. There are two grommets through the cloth on the left and right sides, placed horizontally to each other, spaced approximately 4 centimeters apart, and set over the button on that side. There is a diamond of transparent yellowish material on the inside of the cloth which covers a maker's label stitched into the material. The label is square and has the text: Uniform Cap Mfg. Co. - Manufacturers of - MILITARY CAPS - SIZE 7 [indistinguishable] - 151 BNK ST. OTTAWA, CAN - Caps of Distinction by - HARRY BENOVOY. There are also small icons of a maple leaf on either side of the size.

Context

The cap is a uniform item of the Orange Young Britons (O.Y.B.) and was worn in O.Y.B. parades in Stittsville. It belonged to Elroy McCooeye, a resident of Stittsville.
