Context

From the collection of Jim McCooeye. The Ladies Orange Benevolent Association (LOBA) is an auxiliary of the Orange Order. It was founded in 1894 to provide women with an opportunity to actively practice the principles of the Order. Like their male counterparts, the members of LOBA had to be both protestant and believers that Canada should remain a dominion within the British Empire. LOBA focused on activities such as organizing functions within the Orange community, fundraising for charities, and helping maintain Protestant orphanages. LOBA members also participated in the annual July 12th parades, which celebrated William III's victory at the Battle of the Boyne.
