Dear Korean War Veterans,
We are currently living in extraordinary times. The Covid-19 pandemic disrupted all our lives. As a Korean Defence Attaché to Canada, my primary concern is your health and well-being in this global health crisis.
Due to the Ontario government's prohibition on public gathering of more than five people, our embassy and the KVA Unit 7 held the 69th Kapyong commemorative ceremony on the 23rd of April at the National War Memorial, consisting of only five individuals.
Mr. Bill Black, President of the KVA Unit 7, said that we should remain unshaken regardless of any attempt to dislodge what we consider our core values as we should remain resolute in remembering our veterans. I absolutely agree with him. Those core values are your bravery and sacrifice that you and your comrades battled to defend freedom and democracy in the Republic of Korea.
As you may know, this year marks the 70th anniversary of the Korean War. The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs of Korea prepared numerous events to commemorate this special year. These include the Revisit Korea Program for our veterans. Many of you have already visited Korea through this program, and many of you probably have seen the remarkable changes that have taken place in Korea. Korea has transformed from a war-torn impoverished land to one of the most prosperous countries in the world.
On behalf of the Korean people, I would like to express my deep and abiding gratitude to you, for your immeasurable contribution during the Korean War. The people of Korea will never forget your spirit, courage and sacrifice.
Even though many of the MPVA Korea's plans came to a standstill due to the pandemic and travel restrictions in place, I do hope things will improve soon and we can commemorate this meaningful year together in both Korea and Canada.
I hope you and your family are staying healthy and safe and hope to meet you and shake your hands in the near future.
Yours sincerely,
[Handwritten signature]
