France June 21st. 1917 Dear Mother: Rec’d your two registered letters of May 2nd. + 17th. four or five days ago. the money certainly came in good as we just came out of the line. I also got your letters of May 24th, containing two dollars + May 27th. which was registered with a fine. Money goes just as fast here as if in Canada, everything being so expensive. I guess it is now certain of poor Arthur’s death, am sure his people take it bad, was surprised to hear of Lionel being wounded too. hoping it is not serious. (2) The weather has been very uncertain, it being very warm for a few hours followed by showers of rain. The 207th. are still in Amherst eh! They must sure be sick of hanging around so long. I have had no word from Earl Hobson or Ervie, [crossed out: oy] but Catton a friend of ours who used to be in the Bath bombers 73rd. just came back yesterday, he was wounded on the 9th. Apr. but very slightly didn’t make Blighty. told me that Ervie was in a hospital near Manchester Eng. undergoing treatment for a weak heart, + got no letters since he left France. I forgot to tell you of receiving the parcel containing the leather gauntlets, socks, etc., they are (3) the same as the pair I got on the ninth, well it was this fellow Catton, that owned the pack in which I had left the contents of that parcel. George never got those Fritzy snaps eh! tat [spelling error: that] is some picture of him with dad’s long coat + plug hat, he looks to be a full grown man which I suppose he thinks he is, told some that was my dad, a few said he was at least thirty-five ha ha! that’s a good one on him. You don’t want to let him to start to wear long trousers yet. Told you in my other letter of [indistinguishable] Macguier being our platoon officer. With Love To All Sefton. PS. Inclosed [Spelling error: Enclosed] are some [crossed out: old] roses picked from a old ruined village. Sefton."
