Dear mother
Received your letter written Sept. [abbreviated: September] 5th the other day being very glad to hear from you all. I haven't got writing for over a week I suppose you will be expecting a letter this last while. Today I got letters from Clystal, Jonathan, and Austin Dilworth , we certainly appreciate news when in the trenches.
All the boys are fine excepting Earl, who has a little sick this last few days, which I think is the cold.

In your letters you mentioned of not hearing about the parcels you sent, well I told you of receiving three of yours and one from Clystal which contained one pair of socks.
I suppose George is back from the fair, if he went I hope he made out good, anyway it would be good time for him. I am writing this in a dugout on my knees. By the time you receive this letter the Rich. [abbreviated: Richmond] fair will be over, hoping there is fine weather for it. It has been very wet here lately making the trenches very muddy and miserable.
(3)
The mail sent to the front receives very poor attention lately , but a person is pretty sure of getting it through time, those parcels must be lying around somewhere close.
We are now unable to send mail regularly as we were before because it may be left around our quarters before getting the chance of sending it out, besides this as you know it has to be censored by our own officers. How did Pa and George get along with the grain, there must of [spelling error: have] been a splendid crop on the six acres. They are now holding the Germans down very good

but they are sure hardy guys. There is great talk of the war being over by XMas [abbreviated: Christmas], so they are rushing things at all points. Did you ever get that letter headed with Belgium which I sent when first landed here not knowing we weren't allowed to give this heading , by Clystal's letter this morning she knew of being in Belgium. In a few days we are to move to another front not knowing just where.
By the news we get here the 207th intends to come over in Oct. [abbreviated: October] I expect if this is so it will be a draft.
(5)
I am sure Eric would have a splendid trip West together with the other Rich. [abbreviated: Richmond] lads. How is Channon and Willie getting along I never got writing them.
Did Grandpa ever receive the letter which I sent some time ago, I expect he was down home, is he going to stay for the winter? You mentioned in your last letter about Sam McFee’s brother getting shot in the leg being a accident but it wasn't, it was a bullet from a machine gun that hit him while out working on the parpet [spelling error: parapet].
(6)
I hear Miss Cowell is Evyleen's teacher also George’s, he will want to get started back as soon as possible, tell Evy. [abbreviated: Evyleen] I will answer her letter at first opportunity. Did you ever get my old 77th badges which I sent just before leaving Bramshott. If sending any underwear send full length. You were talking of sending money well we can get Canadian money exchanged here. Must close for now don't worry any more as we are as well here as anywhere else.
Best Love To All
