France, June. 15th. 1917 Dear Mother :- Rec’d [abbreviated: received] your letter of May 12th, also the box from Evyleen. being very glad to hear that all were fine. There is lots of back mail on the road somewhere for me, before getting this letter the last word was Apr. [abbreviated: April] 24th. I also had word from Clystal + Ethel Eadie, got a parcel from addressed to the 13th, so I will very likely get my mail quicker now. In your letter you mentioned the death Baron Armstrong, well he was in the 73rd. with me, + was wounded on the ninth. (2) went to Blighty + died afterwards, its pretty tough on his brother who is now in the 13th. You also told of Percy Foster rejoining his Bath., [abbreviated: battalion] again, was he only wounded? I always understood that he was either killed or taken prisoner on the Somme, but am glad to learn different. I think there must be a couple of letters with money yet to come to me. You people mustn’t be getting all my letters. Have had no word from Ervie or Earl for a long time, but got word from Eatton a chum of mine who was wounded (3) telling me that Ervie was in a hospital in England, undergoing treatment for a weak heart, he gave me his add. [abbreviated: address] so I will write soon as possible. Mr. Maguire a son of Mr. Andrew Maguire’s is our platoon officer, he is some relation of Ervie’s, father knows his father well I think. I guess poor Arthur is either dead or taken prisoner have they received any definite word at home about him I have been unable to get any other information except that he was seen wounded + not accounted for afterwards. I am sure they (4) feel bad especially his mother a person gets that he can’t realize anything like that, being so used to it, when a person will find when he goes home. You were saying I must be lonesome there being none of the Rich. [abbreviated: Richmond] boys with me, well I have lots of chums, everybody is alike in this life. There is also some lads from Carp in this Bath. [abbreviated: Battalion]. The only thing that bothers me is having you people at home worrying, it goes pretty good when the weather is warm although we may have a few hard scraps. I think it will soon wind up. (5) The 207th. haven’t set sail yet eh! Thought they had. It was too bad so many diseases broke out. Its a wonder you don’t get a car when everybody else around have one. Hope George gets through this year, also Evyleen, did Geo. [abbreviated: George] ever get those Fritzy Snaps? You should have gotten quite a few letters from me lately. It might be better to send money registered, but I guess I will get the others alright. You know money is the staff of life here. With Love To All. Sefton
