France, Dec. 26th 1917 Dear Mother.- Rec'd [abbreviation: received] your letter of Nov. 15th a few days ago, you addressed it to the 73rd. therefore it was over a month on the road, was certainly surprised to hear of Clissie being married, haven't had word from her for some time, the marriage by what you say was very quiet also got a parcel dated Nov. 12th. the mail seems to be coming very slowly. At present there is about two or three inches of snow on the ground, has been storming back + forward the last week or so for a while there we had it quite frosty + dry. I told you of seeing Paul Fox some time ago, well [crossed out: illegible] I saw Willie Brown a few nights was only speaking to him a few minutes is in the P.P.C.L.I's [abbreviated: Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry] they were releaving us in the trenches was on the look out for him as he had written me just after he arrived in France telling me he was going to the P.P.s [abbreviated: Princess Patricia's] just by luck happ [abbreviated: happen] to run across, it was after night I knew his voice but he didn't know me at first, suppose it was on account of not expecting me. well we had a very enjoyable xmas [abbreviation: Christmas] under the circumstances, our dinner consisted of a little turkey good ham + potatoes of course the Batt [abbreviated: Battalion] bought this themselves, you will have to excuse my writing as my hands are almost numb from the cold. I expect you have good sleighing + skating around old Richmond, how is George + the rest of them doing at school will be having their holidays now. "With love to all." Sefton.
