Description

Circular fabric sports patch commemorating the 1956 E.O.A.S.A. (Eastern Ontario Amateur Softball Association) Senior A Champions. This patch belonged to Garnet "Red" Bradley, a member of the championship softball team. The patch features a yellow fabric backing with a printed circular design sewn onto the front. A red line encircles the outer edge of the design. At the top, in red block print, is "E.O.A.S.A."—an abbreviation for the Eastern Ontario Amateur Softball Association. At the bottom, the word "Champions" appears in matching red block print. The center of the design shows two crossed baseball bats with a softball above them. The word "Softball" is printed above the ball, "1956" appears in the middle, and "Mens Senior" is printed at the bottom of the inner design.

Context

Credited In memory of our parents Garnet "Red" Bradley and Fern Bradley (Knox) donated by their family. Red Bradley was a member of the Orange Young Britons #74. He was an avid athlete in Stittsville and volunteered as a coach and trainer for local teams. Elected as Goulbourn Township Councillor 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, Goulbourn Township Deputy Reeve 1965, 1966, Reeve 1967, 1968, and represented the Township of Goulbourn on the first Ottawa Carleton Regional Council 1967, 1968, Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton 1968. The Bradley family's story in Goulbourn dates back to the 1860s and the 10th line of Goulbourn (Fernbank Road). In 1948 Red Bradley took over the farm from his father John Wyckliffe Bradley and married Fern Knox of City View. They had dairy cattle until 1961 then they transitioned to beef cattle. They raised six children and farmed the land until 2007. Red Bradley's Sports achievements: 1949 Eastern Ontario Amateur Softball Association, Stittsville Intermediate Champs, 1950 Eastern Ontario Men's Intermediate Softball Champs, 1952 Eastern Ontario Senior A Softball Champions, 1954 Eastern Ontario Senior A Softball Champions, 1954 Stittsville Senior City Champions, 1956 Ontario Amateur Softball Association Senior A Champions, 1996 Stittsville 56'ers were inducted into the Goulbourn Sports Wall of Fame, 1955-1956 Rideau District Hockey Champions.
