Description

Dark green electrical insulator; "Brookfield New York" is written on the surface in raised lettering, near the base. On top is the number "10" written in raised lettering. This insulator has a top hat-shaped dome and crown straight skirt.

Context

Clear and colourful glass insulators would have been a very common telegraph, telephone and electrical pole accessory. This example from the Museum’s collection originated from the Boyd Farm collection - embossed with “Brookfield” this insulator was produced by Brookfield Glass Company, which made insulators throughout the 1870s.
