A black and white photograph taken at a cemetery with headstones of Canadian First World War soldiers. Central in a row of headstones is that of Sefton Stewart who was a resident of Richmond, Ontario. The headstone is a rectangular shape with a rounded top edge. The top of the stone is decorated with a maple leaf carved in relief and bordered by a circle. The headstone is engraved with text that reads, "145820 PRIVATE / S. I. STEWART / 13TH BN. CANADIAN INF./ 8th AUGUST 1918 AGE 20." On the ground in front of the stone is a wreath of leaves with flowers attached to the bottom centre and a tag with undistinguishable text. In the background there is a large stone monument on the right side. The photograph is adhered to a cream coloured card backing.Context
Sefton Stewart was a resident of Richmond, Ontario. The Museum has a collection of his personal correspondence addressed to family members during the First World War. Sefton was killed during active service in 1918.Collection
