Description

One sepia toned black and white photograph of two adult women on the outdoor staircase of a house. The two women are posed in a semi-seated position with their body turned towards the camera, bottom seated on the hand railing of the staircase and feet positioned on the stairs behind the banisters of the stairs. The woman positioned in front is wearing a contrasting colour striped long jacket with a fur collar as well as a printed cloche style hat. This woman is identified as Norma Stewart resident of Richmond, Ontario. The woman positioned behind the first is wearing a solid dark coloured long jacket with a fur collar and cuffs as well as a solid coloured dark cloche style hat. This woman is identified as Evyleen Stewart resident of Richmond, Ontario. The staircase in the photograph appears to be approximately one storey in height, constructed of wood with light coloured banisters, a mid tone coloured handrail, and light stair risers with darker coloured steps. In the background part of a front door is visible on the top right of the photograph, and a framed window and exterior of a light coloured wood siding clad frame building is visible in the centre background. The distant background on the left side of the photograph is a second building, constructed of a light coloured brick with light coloured mortar, wood framed windows, roof and chimney visible. In the foreground at the bottom right corner of the photo, located to the side of the staircase, is a pile of split cord wood. On the reverse of the photograph there is an inscription written in black coloured ink that reads, "Sefton's two younger sisters Evelyn (Evyleen) in back [sp. black] coat & Norma in stripe coat / 58." Norma and Evyleen Stewart were sisters of Sefton Stewart, Canadian Expeditionary Force member who served from 1916-1918 during the First World War. The family resided in Richmond, Ontario.
