Description

One sepia toned black and white photograph of two adult women wearing similar printed fabric dresses. The two women are posed in a standing position with their body turned towards the camera. The woman on the left is wearing a dark coloured calf length short sleeved dress that is dark in colour with a light coloured square grid overall with lace-like floral accents at intersections of every second line. The dress is trimmed with light coloured lace on the collar and sleeves. This woman is identified as Ivy Stewart resident of Richmond, Ontario. The woman positioned on the right of the photograph is wearing a similar dark coloured short sleeve calf length dress, the bodice of the dress appears to have contrasting vertical stripes, this pattern is less evident on the skirt, with light coloured floral accents in an offset pattern overall. The dress is trimmed with light coloured lace on the collar and sleeves and the woman is standing with her arms joined together in front of her body and resting on her torso. This woman is identified as Evyleen Stewart resident of Richmond, Ontario. Both women are wearing dark coloured stockings and dark coloured shoes with straps that buckle at the ankle. Both women are standing on a manicured lawn with shrubs and trees filling the background with the top centre-left portion of the photo showing the sky. On the reverse of the photograph there is an inscription written in black coloured ink that reads, "Sefton's younger sisters Ivy (left) & Evelyn (Evyleen) on right." Ivy and Evyleen Stewart were sisters of Sefton Stewart, Canadian Expeditionary Force member who served from 1916-1918 during the First World War. The family resided in Richmond, Ontario.
