Description

One sepia toned black and white photograph of three individuals, two young men and a younger girl. The trio are identified as Sefton Stewart who is located back left, George Stewart who is located back right, and Margaret Branley of Ottawa who is located in front. Sefton Stewart is wearing his military uniform which includes a field cap with regimental hat badge, wool jacket, pants, puttees, and polished dark leather boots. George is wearing a dark coloured suit jacket which is buttoned, a white collared shirt, a dark solid coloured neck tie, a dark coloured flat cap or newsboy styled cap, short trousers, tall dark coloured socks, and polished leather boots. Margaret has two light coloured flowers or ribbons on either side of her head presumed to be decorative in her hair, is dressed in a long sleeve, knee length light coloured dress with pleating or sinching at the bodice and waist, light coloured stockings, and her feet are out of frame of the photograph. The trio are standing facing the camera directly and are located on an urban street with sidewalks and buildings lining the left and right sides of the street in the background. The photo was taken before Sefton departed for active service with the Canadian Expeditionary force. The donor has noted that the photo is believed to be taken in front of Clystal Stewart's home on 213 Gloucester Street in Ottawa and is the day Sefton departed for service with the C.E.F. The donor also noted that George was approximately 15 years of age in the photo and Margaret was a neighbour of Clystal's. \n On the reverse of the photograph there is an inscription in blue coloured ink that reads, "Sefton + George Margaret Branley 213 Gloucester St Ottawa." In a dark coloured ink or pencil there is an indistinguishable mark. Sefton Stewart was a Canadian Expeditionary Force member who served from 1916-1918 during the First World War. Clystal and George Stewart were siblings of Sefton. The family resided in Richmond, Ontario.
