One black and white studio photograph of two Caucasian women. The woman on the right is identified as Margaret Stewart, and the woman on the left is identified as Lila Graham, a family friend. Margaret is wearing a long sleeve, V-neck, collared, light coloured dress that has a matching belt at the waist and long matching skirt. Her hair is dark coloured and is neatly collected behind her head. The second figure is Lila Graham who is wearing a vertical striped blouse with a v-collar, that is tucked neatly into a dark coloured long skirt. Lila's hair is dark in colour and is neatly collected behind her head. The two women are photographed at the Stewart family's property in Richmond, Ontario on the occasion of Sefton's going away celebration the weekend before his departure with the Canadian Expeditionary Force. In the background the profile of a white frame house on the right, and dark coloured frame building on the far left side of the photo, and trees positioned throughout the background. On the reverse of the photograph there is a blue coloured ink inscription that reads, "Lila Graham + Grammie Stewart 1916 summer," in black coloured ink below is written, "(Sefton's Mother." Margaret Stewart was the mother of Sefton Stewart a Canadian Expeditionary Force member who served from 1916-1918 during the First World War. The family resided in Richmond, Ontario.Context

Sefton served with the Canadian Expeditionary Force during the First World War. Note from donor: Margaret Stewart, mother of Sefton on the right with a friend, Lila Graham of Richmond, taken the weekend before Sefton left for overseas. Donor recalled that the Stewart family and friends had a gathering the weekend before Sefton departed and this photo was taken at that gathering. The donor believes that the photo was taken at the Stewart family's property in Richmond ON because she recognized the house in the background as the neighbour's property.Collection
