One metal stove lifting tool comprised of a spiral metal wire hand grip formed in an oval shape, attached to either side to the solid metal "y shaped" body of the tool, and a small fitted triangular attachment at the end of the tool meant to grip and lift the stove element.Context
Firewood has been a readily accessible source of energy for the residents of Goulbourn Township. This artefact from the Museum’s collection was used to open the circular lids or “eyes” of a wood fueled cooking stove. Wood was added to some stoves through the circular openings while others had a door to the firebox. The spiral handle of the tool helped disperse heat and protect the hand of the user. The wood stove was often the main source of heat in settler’s homes during the colder months, and the fuel for heating and cooking required a lot of work to fell trees, cut logs and split firewood into small enough pieces.Collection
