Description

Pear-shaped metal powder flask manufactured by G.W. Ingram. In the nineteenth century, powder flasks were used as containers for gunpowder; gunpowder was dispensed through the brass spout, known as the "charger," that appears at the end. The lever was used to control the strength of the powder charge; four values, "1/8," "5/8," and "6/8," are etched into the side of the charger, above the lever. A forest scene depicting a deer is embossed onto the surface of the charger; an identical design appears on the front and back.
