Description
a: Brown to black steel helmet shaped in the distinctive Brodie MK I pattern. The center top of the exterior of the helmet has a visible round steel rivet. The inside of the helmet has a black leather chinstrap that is adhered to the middle with a rivet and to the side with a metal clip. b: Dark brown to black to beige leather, cloth and rope material that is circular in shape. There is a fabric mesh that is sewn into the cloth and sewn into the leather. There are 11 round cylindrical objects that are visible from the outside and are located in pockets inside the outside leather exterior.
Context
Helmets such as these were worn throughout the Great War and offered soldiers minor protection as part of their uniforms. Named the Brodie helmet, this was one of the first helmets offered to soldiers in response to alarming injuries from artillery barrages. This helmet was likely worn by Mr. Sam Rea.
