Description

This object is an indenture between Jackson Stitt and Ezekiel Cole dated to 1840. It is signed and witnessed by James Burke. The support is a worn piece of tan paper. The medium is a brown handwritten ink, rendered in cursive. There are remnants of a red circular seal on the proper right of the back.

Context

This object is highly significant as it pertains to Jackson Stitt who served as a postmaster and founding member of the eponymous community of Stittsville. This is historically significant as it provides information about a prominent family which was instrumental in the settlement of the Goulbourn area.
