001.2.22.3Description
This object is a land transfer from Elizabeth Stapleton to James Cathcart. It is dated to January 25, 1884. It concerns a parcel of land designated as W1/2 Lot 16 Concession 3. The support is a large rectangular piece of paper that is cream in color. Two vertical red lines extend the length of the page on either side of center on both faces. Red lines also appear throughout the document underlining certain elements for administrative purposes. The title page appears smaller and aligned perpendicular to the rest of the document as this object was designed to be transported and stored in a folded position similar to a brochure. The medium is a handwritten black ink rendered in cursive. A blue ink stamp appears on the title page, located on the front at the proper top right quadrant when the page is unfolded; this stamp takes the form of 7 lines of printed script and is quite faded. A black handwritten ink has been used to fill out the forms of the stamp. The proper right bottom half of the front, excluding the title, is upside-down for unknown reasons. There are two green seals shaped like cogs with pointed teeth located along the proper right margin of the back in a vertical alignment; these occur slightly above the horizontal center.Context
