Dear Mrs. Stewart:-
I received your very welcome letter upon arrival here on Thursday. I also received a very nice parcel also a letter from Mrs. Mills. Thanks ever so much I certainly did appreciate it.
I expect to leave this camp the first week in January for Can [abbreviated: Canada] and shall be home the latter part of Jan. or the first part of Feb. It will be a great pleasure to accept your
invitation to come to see you and I promise to do so at the first opportunity. I am feeling highly elated at the prospect of getting back to Can [abbreviated: Canada] so quickly. It almost seems too good to be true. Then there is the other side of it. It is now we begin to miss our comrades who have fallen. I am afraid the home-coming time is going to be a very sad one for the mothers who have
lost sons. Judging from my own mothers pictures I am sure she has aged considerably since I left. I always felt that the mother really suffers more than the boy actually in the fighting.
I will conclude wishing you the best possible X mas [abbreviated: Christmas] and New Year and hope I have the privilidge [spelling error: privilege] of paying you a visit shortly.
