Description

Circular silver medal. The Canadian Volunteer Service Medal was awarded to individuals who voluntarily served in the military, navy, or air force, and completed eighteen months of voluntary service between 1939 and 1947. The obverse depicts seven marching figures dressed in uniform; these figures represent members of the army, navy, air force, and nursing service. The text that appears along the circumference of the medal reads: "1939 CANADA 1945 VOLUNTARY SERVICE VOLONTAIRE." The Canadian Coat of Arms appears on the reverse. The medal is attached to a ribbon by a metal bar; the ribbon contains five bands of colour: green, red, blue, red, green.
