The photograph backing material is a light cream colour and has a underlay vine design which is slightly darker in colour and therefore visible. The inside of the envelope or backing material does not have the same design. On the left side it says " Jas Stewart, Jay's Father, Mary's Grandfather, Alexander's + Amy\'s Great Grandfather. The photo itself is black and white and is a full upper body shot. The photo is shaped like an oval, around which there are multiple rectangular borders in different shades of grey. At the bottom it says "New Paramount Studios, Toronto - Ottawa." The reverse of the envelope has the same vine design pattern.
