Margaret HartinContext
During the "Great Fire of 1870" wildfire reached the family home. Mrs. Margaret Hartin looked after the children as the men fought the flames. To protect the children she covered them in wet blankets and hid them in the well. With her home in danger she rushed back to the house to retrieve a clock, a family heirloom brought from Ireland. Mrs. Hartin was last seen on her way to Poole Creek. She died searching for safety from the flames and was found with the clock beside her.Collection
