Description

Circular silver medal awarded to individuals who served as full-time personnel of the armed forces or merchant marines for 29 days between September 1939 and September 1945. A portrait of King George VI, rendered in profile, appears on the obverse, along with the text: "GEORGIVS VI D G: BR: OMN: REX ET INDIAE IMP." The reverse contains a depiction of a lion standing on top of a double-headed serpentine creature. One of the creature's heads is an eagle head, the other, a dragon; the eagle and dragon represent the Western and Eastern forces. The dates 1939 and 1945 are embossed onto the surface of the medal and appear in the top right corner, just above the lion. A ribbon is attached to the medal by a metal bar; the ribbon contains seven bands of colour of varying widths: red, blue, white, red, white, blue, red.
