Some Aircraft Repair Units, Floating were retrofitted to accommodate helicopters. The Sikorsky R-4, a two-seater helicopter that would serve most predominantly with the U.S. Army but also the Navy, Coast Guard, and the Royal Air Force, first began rolling off the production line in 1942 and was primarily used for observation and to ferry supplies.
