A classified military project during the last year of WW II, Operation Ivory Soap at the Grand Hotel in Point Clear, Alabama, trained over 5,000 Army Air Corps personnel in seamanship skills in preparation to being sent to the Pacific to repair aircraft. Their new home was on modified Liberty Ships known as Aircraft Repair Units - Floating (ARU-F) which could "island hop" to air strips on islands in the Pacific.Create Date
