Description

The Confederate Rest Cemetery is a section of the Point Clear Cemetery, which is owned and maintained by the Point Clear Cemetery Association. Women of the Eastern Shore Memorial Association organized on January 21, 1927. This organization is responsible for the enclosure around the Confederate soldiers' graves. On the east end, an archway has the words, "Confederate Dead." The old Confederate cannon was placed at Confederate Rest sometime in 1925. Mr. Arthur F. Hutchings, Chairman of the Eastern Shore Memorial Association, was instrumental in obtaining a cannon from Ft. Morgan, together with a number of cannon balls. It was transported by schooner to Battles Wharf and transported by horse-drawn carriage to the cemetery.
