Description

During 1944-45, the Grand Hotel became a Marine Training school known as "Operation Ivory Soap." Members of the Army Air Forces received their training in Seamanship so they could serve on the Army Aircraft Repair Ships, being sent to the Pacific Theater during the final year of WWII.
