Description

During WW II, seamanship training at the Grand Hotel included learning to climb a ladder wall, as if it were the side of a ship. Over 5,000 personnel from the Army Air Corps prepared to be part of the crew of converted Liberty Ships which were sent to the Pacific to repair aircraft. The Grand was leased to the US Government for the classified Operation Ivory Soap mission ("it floats").
