Name/Title

Duck Boat training - WWII Ivory Soap

Description

During WWII, Grand Hotel was a Marine Training camp, training Army Air Corps soldiers to become sailors (they became part of the crew on board one of 24 converted Liberty Ships). They utilized DUKW "Duck" Boats for transport of repairmen and supplies from ship to shore. [DUKW is a manufacturer's code based on D indicating the model year, 1942; U referring to the body style, utility (amphibious); K for all-wheel drive; and W for dual rear axles. Called a “duck,” the vehicle was shaped like a boat.]
