Description

Handwritten inscription on reverse of image reads, "Isophine Gallatin." This caption seems to indicate that the subject is Sarah Isaphene (Garrison) Gallatin [1873-1958]; however, the young woman in this image does not appear to match other identified images of Isaphene that are included in this collection (see item # MILB-AN001-0004-0021), as well as those in private ownership that have been shared for comparison. Alternatively, the caption may indicate to whom the photo was given as opposed to the subject, or it may have been written in error at a later date. Notably, item # MILB-AN003-0003 bears the inscription, "Lizzie Gallatin," but appears to actually match the other identified images of Isaphene. Item # MILB-AN003-0002 and item # MILB-AN003-0003 were taken about the same time and are matted in the same style, which may have later contributed to confusion when captions were written. Original, no photographer listed.
