Description

Dr. Samuel Watson [1850-1905] - husband of (1) Nancy Keener and (2) Ella Robbins, son of John Watson and Mary Ann Almost. According to Samuel's obituary, in the final years of his life he was a "conductor on the Fairchance-Leckrone line of the West Penn Railways company." (Dr. Samuel Watson obituary, Daily News Standard, Uniontown, Pennsylvania, 1 May 1905, page 1, column 3 and page 4, column 4.) His hat says "Conductor." It is difficult to see the railway logos on either his hat or uniform. We do not know if Samuel worked for any other lines. Handwritten inscription on reverse of image reads, "Grandma T's uncle." This refers to Ella May (Watson) Throckmorton [1893-1988], daughter of Robert Watson [1847-1942]. Robert and Samuel were brothers. Original, professional photograph from Kough, Uniontown, Pa.

The Watson Series photographs, documents, and heirlooms were passed from Robert Watson [1847-1942] and his wife, Catharine Anderson [1848-1933], to their daughter, Ella May (Watson) Throckmorton [1893-1988], and her husband, Robert Lawrence Throckmorton Sr. [1889-1964], to their daughter, Katherine Jane (Throckmorton) Toothman [1919-2012], to her son Glenn Jacob Roy Thornton Toothman III who owned and shared the items with the Greene Connections: Greene County, Pennsylvania Archives Project between 2016 and 2022.
