Description

Washington Street (looking north from High Street) in Waynesburg, Greene County, Pennsylvania. ON THE LEFT: Signs of the Waynesburg Republican and Waynesburg Independent newspaper offices appear at their respective offices. At the top of the hill, Miller Hall and Hanna Hall may be seen on the Waynesburg College campus. ON THE RIGHT: This scene is too far down the street to see the Messenger Building located on the northeast corner of High and Washington Streets. As Washington Street continues north up the hill, the large frame structure is a Civil War-era flour mill that was later torn down to make way for the construction of the Waynesburg College Stewart Hall building. Beyond it, at the top of the hill, North Ward Elementary School is visible. Also see item # WBGB-AN001-0027, in which the buildings on the hilltop are clearer. Original, no photographer listed.
