2011.2.128Description
Green Mount Cemetery caretaker's house and entrance on Morris Street, Waynesburg, Greene County, Pennsylvania.
Green Mount Cemetery was established by an Act of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania on the 15th day of April 1853. Two years later in 1855, surveying was complete for the original property and lots were made available for purchase. In 1877, the formed concrete wall and columnar entrance on Morris Street were added.
Across Morris Street is the house built by Civil War veteran Cyrus W. Pyle, between 1875 and 1876. The house still stands in 2020, though without the front porch seen in this image. Remnants of the old alley that ran near Morris Street can be seen beside the Pyle house. This alley was abandoned and the ground divided among property owners.
