Description

Panorama photograph believed to be of Company K, 10th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry soldiers (later 110th Infantry, 28th Division) as they headed to a training in the era just before or during the Mexican Border War (1916) or World War I (1917-1918). The soldiers are standing at the Waynesburg & Washington Railroad Station in Waynesburg, Greene County, Pennsylvania. Members of the local Company K have been identified in this group, but only 67 soldiers are pictured, which may indicate peace-time enlistment levels. At the time the Company left for WWI on 7 September 1917, we know that approximately 150 men were in the group that boarded the W & W to go to training at Camp Hancock, Georgia. It also may be possible that some of the soldiers photographed were not members of Company K at all, but trained with them before receiving their own orders.
