Notes

This photograph is included in a Carte-de-Visite sized photograph album that features the extended relatives of the VanCleve and Throckmorton families of Greene County, Pennsylvania. The album was purchased during a Flea Market event at the Greene County Fairgrounds in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, by Frank VanCleve's daughter-in-law. No provenance or other historical information is known about the album other than its contents, which have been preserved and digitized in original order for contextual clues. Though it seems likely, based on the identified photographs in the album and the order in which they appear, that the original owner was a member of the immediate family of John Hunter VanCleve [1824-1907] and his wife, Ursula (Throckmorton) VanCleve [1826-1909]. Considering the number of Ursula's siblings who are represented, in addition to her own children, it is possible that the album belonged to Ursula herself. If information was written on the album page, the page itself was scanned first, followed by the photograph front, and then by the photograph back if it also contained information. Though Frank VanCleve maintains ownership of the original album, he has given permission for the photographs to be made available digitally for the use of family and local history research. The album was loaned to the Cornerstone Genealogical Society for this purpose and digital scans and archival notes were made from the original album by Candice Buchanan for the Greene Connections: Greene County, Pennsylvania Archives Project on 19 April 2015.
