Grave of William Webster Throckmorton in France. William was wounded in battle on 29 July 1918 during World War I. While hospitalized to recover he became a victim of the flu epidemic, leading to pneumonia. He died 18 September 1918 just before being sent home. Following the end of the war, William's temporary grave in Europe was vacated and he was returned to Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, for interment in the family mausoleum at Oakmont Cemetery on 8 October 1920.

The Throckmorton-Watson Series photographs were passed from Robert Lawrence Throckmorton, Sr. [1889-1964] and his wife, Ella May Watson [1893-1988], to their son William Alfred Throckmorton who owned and shared the photographs with the Greene Connections: Greene County, Pennsylvania Archives Project in 2007.
