Occupation and Personal Property Assessment of Females in Greene County, Pennsylvania for the Year 1921 - Volume 3Entry/Object ID
2018.1.147Description
These three volumes contain images of a collection of Greene County tax assessment books from 1921, listing all female residents of each township and borough over the age of 21. The Nineteenth Amendment to the U. S. Constitution, which granted women over 21 the right to vote, was ratified in August 1920 and these lists were gathered shortly thereafter. The lists contain the names of each woman in the township or borough, her post office address, occupation, the occupation’s assessed valuation, the value of any property owned by her, and amount of money at interest held by the woman. Prior to this time, women were generally not included in tax records unless they happened to own some taxable land.Collection
