Description

Cabinet card of John Henry McFarland [1864-1923] - son of Josephus McFarland and Mary Ann Linton. Identification is based on comparison to item # MILB-AN002-0001, which is a tintype of the McFarland family. Tintypes are typically reversed, like looking into a mirror. In the tintype, John's left eye (which is therefore his right eye in real life) appears misaligned. Note that in this cabinet card and in another cabinet card from the same photo shoot (see item # MILB-AN001-0004-0005), John's right eye seems to have been edited by hand to appear centered. The Mary (Vance) McCann Collection was passed from George Birch Vance [1870-1928] and Jessie Dell (McFarland) Vance [1868-1935] with the ownership of their home in Mapletown, Monongahela Township, Greene County, Pennsylvania, to their daughter, Mary (Vance) McCann [1898-1987], and her husband, Marshall Albert McCann [1895-1956]. Mary (Vance) McCann left the collection to her grandson, William Marshall Miller, who owned and shared the collection with the Greene Connections: Greene County, Pennsylvania Archives Project in 2023.
