The initial indicates Dennis Sanders [1840-1918], a Civil War veteran, whose occupation is listed as hotel proprietor in the U.S. Federal Census of 1910. On the right side of the street, the tall sign reads. "R. S. Stahl Grocery and Confectionary." The porch sign nearby advertises local and long distance telephone service.
