Description

Carte-de-Visite photograph. This CDV has been identified as Martha J. Barnes - daughter of William Barnes and Eleanor Ingersoll. However, her birth year circa 1820, would put her age in early 40s at the time of this photograph. The girl pictured is too young to be Martha. Original, professional photograph from A. Wallace, Waynesburg, PA. There is a 2-cent tax stamp on the back side indicating that the photo dates to the Civil War, probably between 1 August 1864 and 1 March 1865 during the time when a tax stamp higher than one cent was used.

Notes

The Jacobs-Kent Series probably began with Eleanor Ann (Kent) Jacobs [1832-1902], wife of Henry Moore Jacobs, and daughter of David Kent & Elizabeth Barnes. Eleanor's photographs were passed to her son Joseph Warren Jacobs [1868-1947] to his daughter Helen Mae (Jacobs) Fonner [1922-1999] to her daughter Anna (Fonner) Blystone who with her husband, George Blystone, owned and shared the photographs with the Greene Connections: Greene County, Pennsylvania Archives Project in 2005. Source Citation: Unidentified, item no. JACB_AN001_0004, Helen Mae (Jacobs) Fonner Collection, shared by George and Anna (Fonner) Blystone, Greene Connections Archives Project (www.GreeneConnections.com).
