Asa Warren Morris [1857-1921], age 33, dairyman. This photo was taken when he managed the 640 acre Yolo ranch of his late uncle, Asa Morris, the pioneer.
Asa Warren Morris (dairyman) was the oldest son of Captain John Morris and Sarah Church of Center Township, Greene County, Pennsylvania. He married Mary E. Call and followed his pioneer uncle to Yolo County, California in 1879. He went on to become one of the world’s foremost Holstein cattle breeders, culminating in his famous champion cow, Tilly Alcartra.

The Morris-Call Series photographs and research notes were compiled by Lynne Gough (descendant of the Morris and Call families of Greene County) while doing research for her children’s book, Asa and the Holstein Queen. Each photograph includes an explanation of its provenance. The images and related history were shared by Lynne with the Greene Connections: Greene County, Pennsylvania Archives Project in 2016.
