Description
Carte-de-Visite photograph of Nancy (McGinnis) Garrett [1813-1881] - wife of Peter Garrett, daughter of John McGinnis & Sarah Clark.
There is a 3 cent tax stamp on the back side indicating that the CDV dates to the Civil War, probably between 1 August 1864 and 1 March 1865 during the time when a tax stamp higher than 1 cent was used.
Original, professional photograph from J. S. Young, Washington, Pa.
The Grable-McGinnis Album Series photographs are preserved in a Carte-de-Visite size album that may have once belonged to Abigail (McGinnis) Grable [1809-1880] - wife of Daniel Grable [1795-1851]. The album was donated by James Grable in 2007, to the Greene County Historical Society (918 Rolling Meadows Road; Waynesburg, Pennsylvania 15370). Researched and digitized for the Greene Connections: Greene County, Pennsylvania Archives Project, 2011.
