Whole plate tintype (6.5 x 8.5 inches). Hand-colored. Handwritten inscription written on shirt below tie reads, "Johnson." Based on the approximate date of this photograph, age of subject, handwritten inscription, and ownership history, a potential candidate for the identity of the man in this image is Joseph B. Johnson [1786-1862] - husband of Sarah Kent. Joseph was the father of David H. Johnson [1813c-1880], grandfather of Margaret (Johnson) Bosworth [1844c-1892], great-grandfather of Sarah Jane (Bosworth) Gilbert [1877-1954], great-great-grandfather of James Lloyd Gilbert [1915-1980], and great-great-great-grandfather of Zenia Jane Gilbert [1938-2026] whose family owns and shared the original image. Comparison images are being sought in addition to ongoing research. Original, no photographer listed.

The Miscellaneous Series was passed from James Lloyd Gilbert [1915-1980] and his wife, Violet Elizabeth (Stockdale) Gilbert [1918-2006], to their daughter, Zenia Jane Gilbert [1938-2026], to her cousin, Judge H.
