Description

Carte-de-Visite photograph of Joshua Rice [1840-1896] - husband of Henrietta Fordyce, son of Josephus Fordyce Sr. and Harriet Bodley. Researcher Lisa Bauman, a descendant of Joshua Rice, has pointed out that Joshua Rice was a Union soldier imprisoned at Andersonville during the Civil War. Two men also pictured in the John Robert Rice collection, Charles C. Thayer (see item # RICE-AN001-0002-0052) and Owen Thomas Wright (see item # RICE-AN001-0002-0023), became his close friends and together helped each other to get through their days at the prison. Bauman references "Sunshine in Andersonville" by Rev. F. M. Cain, chapters 2 and 12, for this information. Original, professional photograph from J. M. Simington, Photographer, Memphis, Mo.
