Tintype.
Handwritten inscription on album page reads, "Henry + Katie Linton." This caption indicates that the subjects are Henry Linton [1809-1887] and Catherine (Abel) Linton [1810-1888]. However, this couple appears too young to be the Lintons, who would have been in their 40s or 50s at the time this image was taken. Furthermore, in the Mary (Vance) McCann Collection, there are two images of couples identified as Henry Linton [1809-1887] and Catherine (Abel) Linton [1810-1888], and two more images of men identified as Henry Linton [1809-1887]; unfortunately, photograph analysis indicates that the pictures are not all of the same people, calling all four identifications into question and requiring further research (see item # MILB-AN001-0002-0029, item # MILB-AN001-0006-0036, item # MILB-AN001-0006-0037, item # MILB-AN001-0006-0038). It seems likely that at least some of the Linton captions were well-meaningfully written in error by later generations that had not personally known the people pictured.
Original, no photographer listed.
